Whether in the office or the factory – technology management is everywhere
Fraunhofer-Institut für Arbeitswirtschaft und Organisation (Institute for Industrial Engineering – IAO) in Stuttgart is involved in the area of technology management. In particular it helps companies to identify innovative organisational forms and information and communication technologies of relevance to them, adjust these to their individual needs and implement them consistently.
One of the developments by the Stuttgart scientists is the ‘Office Excellence Check’. This test is available on the internet and makes it possible to measure and compare quality and efficiency in offices. Anyone who works in an office can analyse his or her workplace, work environment, the technology available and various work processes. The test has already been taken more than 1,500 times, thus providing interesting comparative figures for companies.
Partners from industry, the health sector and the academic field are currently working together on the project ‘Zukunft Klinik’ (‘the future of hospitals’) in order to determine how hospitals can operate more efficiently and economically in future.
In numerous laboratories and demo centres such as the model factory for assembly and logistics or the virtual four-sided stereo projection room ‘Cave’, the researchers at the Fraunhofer IAO can test and try state-of-the-art technologies.
Fraunhofer IAO works closely with the Institut für Arbeitswissenschaft und Technologiemanagement (Institute of Human Factors and Technology Management – IAT) at the University of Stuttgart on an interdisciplinary basis for various research projects. For example, it participated in creating the degree in technology management, which is the only one of its kind in Germany. In essence the degree is an engineering degree with a focus on business administration.
Fraunhofer IAO processes in excess of 130 projects each year as part of public research programmes.
